How can we help?
Dietary changes have been shown to have huge impact on behaviour. Consultants are now recommending what nutritionists have been suggesting for years, the use of fish oils. The causes of ADHD have been linked to toxic metals, allergies, poor vitamin status, chemical additives and sugar.
Brain Pollution
As well as investigating nutrient levels, anti—nutrients can induce ADD symptoms. Top of the toxins is lead, which produces symptoms of aggression, poor impulse control and short attention span. Another is excess copper, which has been reported to occur in some ADD children. One study found a link between high aluminium and hyperactivity. Many toxic elements deplete the body of essential nutrients. Lead and copper deplete zinc levels and may contribute to deficiency. Tartrazine, a common food additive used in children’s drinks has been linked to causing reactions within 45 minutes of ingestion.
Allergy- Intolerance
A number of food elimination diets have been shown to be helpful in reducing the symptoms of ADHD, and we suggest IgG food intolerance testing to be beneficial.
Whilst each case is specific we recommend the following approach
- Eliminate chemical additives and sugar
- Test and eliminate allergens (often wheat, dairy or eggs)
- Supplement essential fatty acids
- Supplement vitamin B3, B6, magnesium, zinc and other key nutrients
- Test for and detoxify toxic elements
